The Influence of Advertising on Consumer Behavior

IELTS Writing Task 2

Response: Advertising is a controversial topic: some people argue that it is highly persuasive in encouraging us to buy products, while others believe it has become so ubiquitous that it no longer influences us. In my opinion, advertising remains highly effective at shaping consumer behavior. On one side of the debate, critics of advertising argue that people have grown desensitized to its presence. They believe that consumers today make purchases based on rational needs rather than being swayed by flashy advertisements. For instance, adults often prepare shopping lists in advance, focusing only on essentials. Additionally, many individuals are aware of marketing tactics, such as emotional appeals or exaggerated claims, and are therefore less likely to be influenced by repetitive advertisements. However, others, including myself, maintain that advertising continues to play a significant role in influencing people’s choices. Modern advertisements are often designed to target subconscious desires, making it difficult to resist their appeal. For example, while shopping for necessities, customers might encounter promotions or discounts that tempt them to buy additional items they had not planned for. Moreover, advertising often creates a sense of urgency, such as “limited-time offers,” which can push consumers to make impulsive decisions. Another important factor is the influence of advertising on children. Young audiences are particularly susceptible to colorful or entertaining campaigns, which can create pressure on parents to purchase unnecessary items. This highlights how advertising does not merely target individuals but entire families. In conclusion, while some argue that advertising has lost its impact, I believe it still holds considerable power. Whether through subconscious influence or emotional appeals, advertising continues to shape consumer decisions in both direct and indirect ways.

Response: Some people believe that advertising sector is significantly successful at persuading us to purchase products while others mentioned that this way is so regular that there is no influence at us. I personally agree with former opinion. On the one hand, some individuals believe that advertising is a traditional and out of date method for make people to buy products. This minor group have the opinion that adult people can make reasonable decisions and list their needed things and just spend money on them. Moreover, they believe that all people know the advertisement sector and their tactics for manipulating people to purchase products that they do not need. They have their special trick to force people to buy. For example, when you see banners all around the city about a new product you cannot avoid not to buy it and this need a strong attempt. On the other hand, a major group of people believe that advertising method still has their influence on people which I strongly agree with this opinion. These individuals know that advertisements with their tricks aiming our subconscious pronoun and we cannot defend. For instance, when you go to a clothing shop to buy an item which you need, meanwhile, you see discounted items and they are so temptation and you are unable to resist. In other situation, you have parents’ role, it could be possible that you are very strong but your children are not they easily influenced by advertisements and your children are your weakness. In conclusion, while some minor group of people have the opinion that we are not get influenced by advertisements any more but in my perspective most people are unable to resist not to buy useless products due to their subconscious pronoun or their children.

Response: There has been a controversial view which says the most significant objective of science should be to provide individuals with a comfortable life. While I concede that it is one of the important aims of science, I strongly believe that it is not the most significant aim. On the one hand, science should enhance individuals' living conditions. Nowadays, we have access to many modern technologies more than ever before which can facilitate our lives. Being one of the chief responsibilities, governments should consider providing people with an acceptable living condition as one of the important aims of science. Take artificial intelligence as an example; scholars can empower robots and machines with this groundbreaking technology to do many laborious tasks in favor of humans. On the other hand, despite the benefits of improving people's lives, I still believe that there are two aims which are more significant. Firstly, I believe that scientists should discover an effective way to protect the environment and endangered animal species. Undoubtedly, the environment plays an indispensable role in our lives, providing individuals with food, oxygen, and water. Therefore, scientists and academics should find ways not only to protect the environment for future generations but also to compensate for the damage which humanity has dealt so far. Likewise, there are many animals which tackle numerous viruses which can bring health issues for people. Consequently, the extinction of animals can pose a significant threat to individuals’ well-being. Secondly, I believe that the most important aim of science is finding a new accommodation for all individuals in the globe. These days, the percentage of the population is rising rapidly, so it is predicted that in the coming years we will encounter a scarcity of housing and food supply. Consequently, authorities and scientists should put finding a new plan their number one priority to overcome the future problems which can stem from overpopulation. In conclusion, while I concede that providing people with a suitable living condition is one of the aims of science, I do not agree that it is the most important. I firmly believe that protecting the environment and finding a new residential planet are the most significant aims of science.

Response: Diverse perspectives regarding competition or cooperation are prevalent among individuals. While some argue that competition in various aspects of life such as schools, work, and everyday life has benefits, others think that it is preferable to collaborate with each other. Personally, in my view coordination is more beneficial. On the one hand, some support that creating a competitive environment has many benefits such as hard work and self-improvement. When people create a competitive environment, by observing how others make an effort and energy for their goals, try harder to achieve their own objectives. In other words, it operates as a stimulation. Additionally, competing with other individuals can lead to self-improvement. This is because they may want to be the winner of this competition. Consequently, they try to enhance their skills and abilities by attending various courses or strengthening their previous skills by mastering them. On the other hand, some think that since constant competition may have some potential drawbacks it is better to cooperate with others than compete. They say that rivalry can cause feelings of anxiety and stress because you want to be superior all the time. Therefore, if they experience failure they may lose their confidence and think they are not good enough. This issue in the long run may create a sense of disappointment. Moreover, collaboration with others can increase the speed of the movement toward success. For instance, in the workplace, if one employee struggles with a certain subject, they can ask for help from their colleagues and use their knowledge to solve the problem in a short amount of time. In conclusion, despite the potential benefits of competition, namely, personal growth and more dedication, I believe that cooperation with others has countless advantages including achieving your attainments quickly and avoiding the negative consequences of comparing yourself with others.

The Importance of Home Ownership

Response: It has become increasingly important for people to possess their own home rather than transitioning between rental accommodataions. While there are various reasons behind this new phenomenon, the beneficial and detrimental consequences of this trend cannot be overlooked. One of the reasons justifying the idea of owning a home rather than renting one is the significant increases in yearly accomodation expenses due to rising inflation rates. This growing inflation is particularly more noticeable in developing or under-developed countries, where individuals are compelled to spend a considerable proportion of their income on renting accommodations. As a result, many people in these countries gravitate towards buying their personal home using their accummulated savings. Moreover, possessing a private home may be considered as a potential asset by some individuals. That is, when people own their personal accommodation, they can rent various parts of it, such as available empty rooms, and earn money. This could be a continuing source of income for families, particularly those with children living in houses with multiple rooms. There are advantageous and disadvantageous to this new trend. On the plus side, for extended families with children, owning a home provides stability and allows their children to easily adapt to their living environment. In other words, individuals do not require to switch between different rental houses, and can remain in their accommodation for several years, enabling children to make greater bonding with the local community. However, the tendency to purchase personal houses might strain individuals, particularly those with middle or low income status, resulting in anxiety and emotional stress. This issue may worsen when families grow, necessitating ownership of houses with spacious rooms and greater facilities. In conclusion, the tendency to purchase personal home originates from several causes, the most important of which are related to inflation rates and providing an additional source of income. In my opinion, this trend can be both detrimental and beneficial, requiring careful consideration of this topic.

Response: In fact, internet has effected our reading habits. People will be able to read everything online without purchase or waste money on newspapers or books. I completely agree with this statement. There are some great advantages to online reading. First, people can access books in all over the world. This is because of an important reason. For example, in the past, people had to wait for newspapers or new version of books to read , but nowadays they can read everything online without paying. In addition to, online reading do not damage the environment. This is because, on the one hand , government do not need to recycle papers, it will be help economy. On the other hand, when people read everything online, government do not cute any trees. Nature can breath, it will not damage it more and more. Therefore, online reading not only access people to read everything, but also do not damage the environment. However, some people argue that, if people pay money for newspapers or books, it will read it line by line, in other words, that means when everyone pay , that thing will be valuable for them to read it or maybe people can keep books in a library to show everyone. Hence, some people argue that pay money, it makes supernatural library to keep books. In conclusion, although some people argue that keep books or newspapers, it will be valuable for them, there are some undeniable benefits to online reading, including protection of environment and people who lived all over the world can access to them. Therefore, iam in complete agreement with this statement .

Response: Instead of renting a house, people tend to have their own house in some countries because of rising inflation as well as counting on whose house as an investment. Although there are some reasons for people live in these countries to do so, it can have down side effects on the economy, leading to more inflation. Countries with increasing inflation offer less options to people to invest in, one of which is purchasing houses since it is a safe way to save their money. Simply put, when individuals buy property, not only do they maintain the value of their currency because of increases in whose house value, but they also do not have to waste their money by paying monthly or annual rent price. Consider a retired person who receive their pension after retirement, as an example. They can buy a house with their budget and by doing so, they can both keep their money and inherit their house for their children at the end. Therefore, they can keep going with the inflation with the least pressure of its drawbacks. On the other hand, when the majority of people invest their fortune in property, they will be detered from contributing in other parts of a country’s economy. The amount of money which can be injected into manufacturing and industry, leading to turning the wheels of industry, recruiting more individuals as well, would easily go through buying houses. However, providing a situation that people can trust authorities to share their money in such fields requires a dynamic economy controlled by the government. To coclude, while people in some countries prefer to buy a house rather than being a tenant, I am convinced that this would be economically inefficiant for the progress of manufacturing, despite the infaltion which those countries may suffer from. But the onus is on the government to create a trustworthy situation that people can rely on.

Response: Some individuals argue that is the best approache to adopt with bad situations, including unsatisfactory jobs or low incomes. Others believe that trying to enhance such situations can be better strategy. Personally, I believe we should allocate efforts time to achieve our goals and change our lives. Those who argue we should accept bad situations, including unsatisfactory jobs, believe that this approach can bring some benefits. By accepting bad situations, we can redirect our concentration on more poistive aspect of our lives. For example, people with low incomes or unsatisfactory jobs often focus on their positive aspect personal lives. By doing so, they can feel better and even improve in other aspect other areas. This approach also helps people to alleviate stress and anixety, as they less think about their problems. However, others believe we should try to endeavour to enhace situations that we do not feel satisfied with. They belive by dedecating time and efforts we can change sitatuations. If people keep perseverance and resilience to takcle problem and improve their lives, they absolutely can reap the rewards of their hardwork. For example, it can be seen many entrepreneurs and successful people were in bad situations and they mangad to acheive their goals and make situations better by efforts. Therefore, if individual strat to enhance their lives, they not only can improver their quality of lives but also can fulfill their dreams. In conclusion, although accepting bad situation can present some benefits, including reducing stress, trying to improve situation can be the best aproach to have prosperous and fulfulling life.

Response: Many individuals argue that the most urgent environmental issue of our time is the loss of specific animal and plants species. Other believe there are more critical environmental issues, including climate. Personally, I believe protecting particular animal and plant species should be considered more urgent issue. Those who argue that loss of particular species of plants and animals is our main environmental problem believe it can have negative lon-term impact on human. Humans rely heavily on plants and animals for their survival. Human provide our food from natural resources and animals. Each species of animals and plants plays a crucial role in food chain. For instance, bees are essential part of food chain dut to pollination, if they becom extinct, whole ecosystem will be distrupt. Therefore, the extinction of specific animal or plant species can threat human life. Others believe we should focus on more serious environmental problems, including climate change or air and water pollution. These problems already have threatend our life and earth, as they damage environment in irreversibel manner. They lead to rising water levels, damaging ozone layer. They aslo harm human health by making air and soil polluted, which not only decrease the qaulity of like but also cause long-term negative effects on our health. However, we can tackle these issue and simulantely consider loss of particular species of animals or plants. In conclusion, although environmental problems, including climate change and air pollution require immediate actions, we must protect rare animal or plant species to avoid extinction.

Response: In recent decades, most people have become interested in home remedies to cure their health issues instead of visiting their doctors. While this situation can beneficial to save money and time, in my view, the detrimental effects, such as the spread of virus, have brought more significant consequences. On the one hand, the trend of curing health issues at home has become common among individuals. This can be considered a negative situation due to several reasons. Firstly, people have to understand that doctors and related professionals have studied their subjects for more than six years, therefore they have an essential knowledge to dignose and use the best treatment for them, and also they are aware of the advancements in medicins. Therefor, visiting doctors always is a best solution to cure the health- related problems. In addition, patients often, in their homes, take their old medicines, which it might be expired, or home remedies, such as drinking lemon with honey and hot water, as their main treatments. In fact, these mentioned alternative treatments can be effective alongside the doctor’s prescription. As a result, if their illness cannot be cured, more people will get the virus from them. On the other hand, others argue that, by using the remedies at home, there are more advantages for us. The most important one is saving a reasonable amount of money. They beleive that doctors always instruct us to take extra tests or medicines, leading to spending a lot of money that we can use it in a better way. For example, instead of spending money on non-essential tests, people can buy useful products for their children. At the same time, most parents believe that they can save their valuable time to be more productive in their lives. For instance, if they do not waste their time in waiting rooms, they can spend time with their children. In conclusion, in the modern world, more people have been encouraged to use home remedies and traditional treatments at their homes and refuse to visit their doctors. Although this situation carries certain advantages, like people saving their time to do their favourite tasks, I assert that it represents a negative development due to its potential drawbacks, including diseases becoming widespread among others.
